How To: Share And Connect To USB Devices Over Network Or Internet

With our recently released USB to Ethernet Connector 3.0 you can share any USB device located on your PC and connect to a shared device located on the remote computer over local area network or Internet.

Scheme

The interface is very simple and is divided into 2 parts with controls to share local devices or connect to remote ones.

Nevertheless here is how you do it.

  • Share local USB devices

1. When launching the application there is a list of USB ports available on your PC. You can select a port and share it by clicking “Share local USB device” option even without a device plugged in. You can also apply a filter to view shared USB devices, present devices or connected devices only.

2. After you plug USB device into USB port, USB to Ethernet Connector will find it automatically. After clicking “Share local USB device” a dialog window will appear and you’ll be able to view information about the device you’re about to share and customize additional settings. These include:
- Customize TCP port;
- Enable traffic encryption;
- Enable authorization – this option allows you to set password to access shared devices.

Anyone who’s going to connect to shared devices will need to type the password you’ve entered within the field “Password”.

To unshare the device (or shared port) click “Unshare local USB device” button.

  • Connect to remote USB devices

1. To access remote USB devices switch to “Remote USB devices” tab and click “Add remote device” button. Then define remote host (ours is on the local network but you can choose any host either on the local network or Internet, just keep in mind that in order to share/connect to devices USB to Ethernet Connector needs to be installed on both computers) and press “Find”. The program will list devices/ports shared on the remote computer. Or you can press “Find all” and get the list of shared devices/ports within the whole local area network.
