John, a bioinformatics student from Santa Cruz, tells why he chose SyncMate over other similar products
industry: education
Background Information: Hyunsung John Kim is a student of University of California, Santa Cruz. He is in his final year of studying Bioinformatics.
Victoria Veligodsky: What challenges have driven you to search this kind of software?
Hyunsung John Kim: Windows Mobile, for obvious reasons, lacks syncing software on Macs. I first started using one well-known synchronization tool, but was slightly disappointed with problematic syncing, frequent disconnects and high cost.
While browsing various forums, looking for solutions to my problems with this sync tool, I came across SyncMate which is offered for free for basic utility. As I am using it to only to sync my calendar, contacts and tasks, I thought that it would be suitable for my needs.
Victoria Veligodsky: How did get to know about SyncMate by Eltima Software?
Hyunsung John Kim: I found out about SyncMate via some online forums whilst looking for solutions to an alternative product.
After a quick google search, I found a bunch of blogs that mentioned SyncMate was in Beta and was a free syncing method for Macs. Free is much better than not free, so I decided to download it and take a look.
Victoria Veligodsky: Did you try other products for the same task before choosing our solution? Why did you prefer SyncMate to others?
Hyunsung John Kim: I did try one synchronization software before downloading and trying SyncMate. It is the most popular solution to syncing windows mobile phones on a Mac machine.
The high cost was restrictive and many of the features I would be paying for were unnecessary to me. SyncMate proved to be the lightweight syncing program that I needed, at a very attractive price point (free).
Victoria Veligodsky: Please, describe how you are using our product now.
Hyunsung John Kim: I am simply using SyncMate to sync my calendar appointments and my contacts to my Mac. I then use Plaxo to sync my calendar appointments to my google calendar, which is used by my research group to plan meetings and to find conflicting times. I think your product lacks todo task syncing, which I thought was very basic and necessary functionality. I hope that it will come in the future.
Victoria Veligodsky: How did you benefit from using SyncMate?
Hyunsung John Kim: Not having to pay $40.00 for basic functionality was more than enough incentive to give SyncMate a try. It is very simple to use and seems to crash less often than other synchronization software I used. Free is the perfect price point for me.
