Glad to see the ToDo feature I asked about, but overall, the app crashes on every sync. Mac 10.5.4, USB connection to O2 XDA Atom Life (Win Mobile 6.1). Lemme know if you want logs, but you’ll need to tell me how to get them ;-)

I`m having problems to sync my contacts with Gmail. Everytime I activate “Sync with Google contacts” box, this message is printed to action log:
    ——————————-
    BEGIN SYNCING…
    Beginning a sync session…
NEGOTIATING entities to push to the sync engine…
Event ’syncServicePush’ with entity: com.apple.contacts.Contact for plugin: Contacts
    Direction – Mac Mobile device
Exception syncing: NSInvalidArgumentException, reason *** -[NSCFDictionary setObject:forKey:]: attempt to insert nil value (key: Title)
Error occurred syncing client, not saving or committing changes. Reverting file save…
    Ended sync session.

    END SYNCING
    ——————————-
I had this problem with latest 1.3 version and with the 1.4 as well.

  3. Rob Cowell said,

I’ve found a workaround for my crashing problem – I have to sync each type of item seperately, e.g., check contacts only then sync, then uncheck contacts and check todos and sync, etc.

Not optimal, but it prevents the crash. I think the error is in the underlying iSync subsystem – I saw the message “you can’t sync entities that were never registered” a few times

Please, make sure you have entered all Google information correctly. Check, whether you have connection to the Internet.

Hi, I am still having an issue where events created in the afternoon on my phone are put in the morning in my Ical. Also the ability to sync contact groups would be great.

  6. Vic said,

    @ Mark Jackson -
We are planning to introduce the option to sync contact groups. Please, let us know your date settings in the regional settings of your device, your time zone, and date format in your Mac and its time zone so we can reproduce the problem you are experiencing.

  7. Mark Jackson said,

    Ok thanks here goes:

    short date: yy/MM/dd
    separator: /
    Long date: dd MMMM yyyy
    Calendar type: Gregorian

Time Zone on My mac is Cape Town (GM+2)
Region is set to South Africa
    short date format: yyyy/MM/dd
long date : dd MMMM yyyy

My T-Mobile shadow was syncing just fine with the previous version to this. I’m currently running OSX v10.5.4.

It’s no longer connecting to my Shadow. Log below.

    Build 1.4.0.350
    BackService version: 0.4.2b19
    USB driver version: 0.2.4b9
    Can’t activate RAPI session.

    Thanks!

  9. Vic said,

    @ Mark Jackson –
Please, let us know your phone’s time zone also.

    @Carlos Ruiz -
This looks like a problem connected with the firewall. Please, try to remember whether you have changed any firewall settings on your Mac or on your device.

Both are set at gmt + 2 – south africa.

  11. Ben said,

Hi I just downloaded this and my alltel htc touch will not even be recognized by this product.

  12. Carlos Ruiz said,

    @Vic

Just double-checked my firewall settings and SyncMate is still set to “Allow incoming connections” so it hasn’t changed since the previous version. Anything else I could try?

Feedback for Syncmate running on an Macbook running Leopard, 10.5.4, syncing with HTC_S710 (Windows Mobile 6):

The new features are great, and I appreciate the improvements.

Ever since the first betas, I have problems syncing calendars and contacts – I would always end up with the same event or contact listed twice or more. This finally seems to be working better for calendars (I’m syncing only from Mac to WM6).

However, now with the new To-Do syncing, I have the same problem – all my To-Dos are now listed twice, and syncmate wants to sync all of these doubled entries back to my mac …

I will try to remove them all from the phone, reset the history, and try just syncing one-way from Mac to phone to see if that works better.

In general, it seems to me that there are still problems with two-way syncing for contacts, calendar, and to-dos.

I hope that this feedback is of some help, thanks …

  14. Vic said,

    @ paobeleeso -
thank you for your positive feedback. We will try to help you. Can you please describe what you did in detail, so we can reproduce the issue on our side.

    @Ben -
Please, let us know the version of OS you are using, the build of SyncMate and the version of Windows Mobile OS. Please, check your firewall settings and enable advanced network functionality on your device. Please, let us know how you tried to connect, via USB or Wi-Fi?

  15. Rich said,

I cannot get SyncMate to connect to my Cingular 8125 phone running Windows Mobile 5.0
I cannot find anywhere on my phone to “enable advanced network functionality”. I think this is only for WM 6.0

    Thanks!

  16. Vic said,

    @ Rich –
You need to set your firewall to allow all incoming connections. Let us know if you have any other firewalls, too. Please, let us know which connection type you use (USB or Wi-Fi). If you can send us your logs to support@eltima.com we will be able to help you solve the issue much faster (also let us know if this is the first time you use SyncMate.) And, if you have different modes on your device, you should set RNDIS mode.

    Syncmate Team,

Haven’t been able to check Syncmate for quite a while due to my TyTN II being stolen a few months back, but I was just able to test my wife’s HTC Touch Diamond and SyncMate 1.4. I am glad that a feature I requested got added (firefox bookmark synching, mount disk — even if its beta).

Anyway, I’m running Leopard 10.5.4, SyncMate 1.4, HTC Touch Diamond WM 6.1
    1) Installation: Installing SyncMate driver on the Touch Diamond required me to install it to the device instead of Internal Storage. I initially tried installing to Internal Storage but it just wouldn’t run there. So tried to load in RAM, and it worked!
    2) SMS reader and Manager: Couldn’t get my phone’s SMS. Not sure why.
    3) Calls history – great! it’s working!
    4) Mount Disk – I mounted the disk but SM opened a Finder window but the disk wouldn’t mount. I’ve a feeling its how the diamond treats the internal disk and RAM. Maybe you can check it out.
Sorry, that’s it for now since it’s the wife’s phone, when I get my WM device soon will do a more comprehensive test.

  18. Mark said,

I’m using the same phone as Rich (above) and have tried using SyncMate for the first time. While the SyncMate software is loaded on my MacBook Pro, when I plug USB into Mac and then 8125, nothing happens. I am using ActiveSync to a work PC, would this be causing a conflict?

  19. Vic said,

    @ Mark –
In order to look into the issue, we need to know more information. Please, let know our support team (support@eltima.com) what OS you are running, check your firewall settings, attach the log. If you are using Windows Mobile 6, then please check Advanced Network Functionality option (on your device). Go to Settings – Connections – USB to PC and check Advanced Network Functionality box.

    @ maximus –
Thank you very much for your test! This information is very important to us and everything is taken into consideration. We are now working on the issues you have reported and those will be fixed in the next build. We are eagerly waiting for your next test!

WHen I sync to my HTC Diamond all my contacts go sorted Lst Name, First name.

then I have to manually change each to First/Last.

Isn’t there a way to automatically sort First Name first?

    thankss!

  21. gurth4ng said,

Hello. first of all, congrats for an excellent software :)

There is a slight problem though: When i sync my contacts from my mac to my device, the contacts appear on the later in a [last name, first name] format, which is totally annoying for me.

Is there a way to change this behavior?

    thx :)

  22. Vic said,

@ Diogo da Silva and gurth4ng
Actually, SyncMate doesn’t influence the appearance of the contacts. We will investigate this issue and will let you know the result as soon as possible.

This is discovery learning for me. I was hoping to use this program to extend the service life of my Dell Axim X50 for a bit longer and mirgrate my calendar and address book to my MAC.

The problem I’m having is my iMac not “seeing” my docked pocket PC.

How do I get it to recognized the device?
Can I use Blue Tooth to sync?

    Will check back for suggestions/answers.

Finally got my own WM phones and tested out the newest SyncMate build. 1.4.356.

I’m running Leopard 10.5.4, HTC TyTN II and Samsung Omnia.

I tested out Contacts, Folders and Device Info, Call History, SMS Reader, SMS manager.

Contacts worked flawlessly. there were a couple of contacts that didn’t sync but I think this is mainly due to how I set it up in my nokia which synched to the address book.

Folders. Remember my complaints before synching big folders and files. well, synched 2 folders, one a 100MB, the other close to 500MB. Everything is there. On both my Kaiser and Omnia. Wasn’t able to time it though but I noticed it’s more stable now.

Call History is accurate on my omnia. Device Info took a while and I wasn’t sure if it was going to work but SM picked it up, didn’t verify each and every file type but at least I knew how much space was left on ram, My Storage (still around 14.41GB of 15GB) and storage card. SMS both reader and manager didn’t pick anything up. Not sure if this is due to the setting I put in MemMaid where I made the messaging cache be directed to the My Storage.

I was also able to test out the Wi-Fi synch up (Aug 1, 2008 build) and synching contacts works ok.

  25. maximus said,

Just Tested the mount disk on my omnia and it worked. Last time it didn’t :-) but with build 356 it did.

Bookmark synching didn’t work with Firefox. It only copied both Firefox and Safari Defaults but not the others I’ve added even when I checked the Sync with Firefox box.

I think everyone is moving to Opera Mobile browser instead of pocket IE so you may want to check synching bookmarks.

    @ maximus –
Thank you very much for your tests. As always, they prove to be very useful to us. Could you please let us know, how did you put messaging cache to the memory card? Please, let us also know why bookmark synchronization failed? What have you created, where, how did you try to sync them?

  27. Steve said,

    hi everyone,

does anybody know the port that syncmate is working with? i always have to shut my firewall down to sync my mobile with the mac (10.4.11) …..

    thanx a lot!!

  28. Vic said,

    @ Steve –
Please, refer to FAQ section of SynMate user manual to find answer on your question

Works fine with HTC touch pro after allowing TCP traffic on port 990. Mac OsX 10.4.11.

  30. Larry said,

It looks like other people have been having trouble syncing the 8125 . I have been working with your support for 1.5 weeks now and they keep telling me to set things on my phone that cannot be set because just like the other 8125 keep telling you mobile 5.0 on the 8125 does not have these settings. I am almost past the point of thinking that this program is a waste of money.

  31. Vic said,

    @ Larry –
In order to utilize SyncMate successfully, you have to set everything correctly. In order to create a successful synchronization, please switch your mobile device to RNDIS or Active Sync Mode.

  32. Chris G said,

I think I have a similar problem to Lakewood Bob (above). On the WM I am using version 4. I can’t find an Advanced Network Functionality option, but I have looked through the options under Activesync – to no avail.
On the Mac (which is new), the WM is visible in the USB bus in the System Profiller, but no where else. The software can’t pick it up and no drive appears. I’ve looked at the firewall settings and these are set to ‘Allow all incoming connections’.
Any further ideas? Is there something I need to load onto the WM device? Much appreciated as I have heard great things about Syncmate and look forward to using it!

  33. Vic said,

    @ Chris G -
Unfortunately, SyncMate doesn’t support Windows Mobile 4. SyncMate supports only Windows Mobile 5, 6 and 6.1

  34. Chris G said,

Shame. I must be keeping my hardware too long! This question may be a bit outside your remit, but you know if it’s possible to upgrade my phone to a more recent version? Thanks.

  35. Vic said,

    @ Chris G –
Unfortunately, it is not possible to upgrade your phone to a more recent version of Windows Mobile.

  36. RafaelF said,

    Hi!

I’ve just upgraded and can no longer sync (can’t activate RAPI session). Firewall is off. Performed uninstall and reinstall of SyncMate. Rebooted both machine and phone. I’ve noticed @Carlos Ruiz experienced the same issue as me with his Shadow.

    OS X 10.6.1, T-Mobile Shadow.

  37. Alex Taylor said,

    @ RafaelF:

    1. The possible reason of the error “Can’t activate RAPI session.” is that Mac firewall blocks the connection or PDA firewall blocks driver installation. On Mac, try this: System Preferences -> Security/Sharing (Internet and Network)-> Firewall -> Allow All Incoming Connections.

    2. Make sure that Activ Sync is started on your mobile device:
Start > Program > Activ Sync > Menu > Connections > check box “Sync all PCs using this connection” > drop down list USB

    3. Also go to your Mac’s Network settings and select Winmobile network adapter. Set the following configuration:

    Configure: manually
    ip address: 169.254.2.2
Apply and connect your mobile device.

  38. RafaelF said,

@Alex Taylor: Thanks! Setting the Winmobile adapter to “manually” did the trick.
