New Folx Build is Ready for Download!

We are glad to announce to all Folx users, that a new build of this handy downloader for Mac is now available for download. We’ve added some new features you’ll surely enjoy and fixed some issues, thus improving the overall stability of the application.

Among the new features are:

- “Auto speed mode” added. This feature automates the process of download speed limiting. If you’re surfing the web and downloading files simultaneously, the download speed is cut to a specified value, otherwise the download speed is maximum possible

- Added the possibility to choose “Shutdown”, “Sleep” or “Quit ” options when “After download all tasks” or “Scheduled” options are applied

- We’ve added the scheduled automatic application launch and now you can easily schedule the launch of Folx in a few clicks

- Added the possibility to start downloading without showing “New task window”

- Some minor bugs and glitches are fixed

As you can see we keep improving Folx by adding new features, but the only thing that remains unchanged is that this easy-to-use downloader is still absolutely free (while it is still Beta)!

Feel free to download the latest build and enjoy Folx’s new features!

Everytime I go to download something from Folx from firefox – I get a Folx.read requires that you type your password. I am an admin to my machine – how do I turn this off?

  4. Alex Taylor said,

    @ Shannon Sumner -
Please check the presence of FolxNetscapePlugin.plugin here /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ and here /Library/Internet Plug-Ins and the presence of FolxIM here /Library/InputManagers. Do you have an access to these folders?
Or you can send screenshots to us (at support@eltima.com) with detailed descriptions of your actions.

Thank you for making such a great download manager. I use Folx daily and it really boosts my download speeds greatly.

I was just wondering, does Folx work on Snow Leopard? Or do you plan on putting out a new Snow Leopard compatible version?

There’s a bug in Firefox when using Folx Downloader plugin – at the bottom of the window, below the status bar, there’s another bar which shows “Context menu for click”. Hope you can fix this!

    @ Thomas Furlonger -
Thanks for your kind words and interest in Folx. Most possible that Folx is Snow Leopard compatible. We are testing the compatibility at the moment.

I have Snow Leopard; folx does work, but can’t catch downloads from SAFARI. It does catch download from FireFox & iCab though

  11. Alex Taylor said,

    @ Josh Dye -
Currently Folx is not fully compatible with Mac OS 10.6. Mac OS 10.6 support will be added in one of the upcoming releases of Folx. All elements available for hiding can be accessed from Folx main menu -> View -> (Hide Log, Hide Progress, …). Folx doesn’t feature hiding toolbar.

  13. Jacob said,

I’m using Folx with Snow Leopard and YES it is capturing downloads from Safari. I have Safari running in 32 bit mode instead of 64 bit mode (to enable Safari AdBlock to work) wonder if this makes a difference.

  14. Alex Taylor said,

    @ Jacob –
Yes, it makes the difference. Currently, when you’re using Mac OS 10.6 Folx can catch downloads form Safari only if Safari is running in 32-bits mode. We will add 64-bits mode support in one of the upcoming releases of Folx. You can subscribe to our RSS feed to be first to know about Folx updates. Or stay with our blog – we always post fresh news here:)

Hi. I’ve used Folx some time now however since updating to snow leopard I find when I click a download link I get directed to a black screen which never loads. I guessed it was Folx causing this and had a right job getting shot of all the folx files so I could download again. Appdelete wasnt up to the job. I ended up having to pinpoint all the files with Easyfind and manually delete them. If this is the normal behaviour of folx in snowy at the mo perhaps you should make a note of which files to remove for folks who dont want to be hassled hunting? Just an idea. I’m looking forward to an SL compatible folx. Keep up the good work.

Is this the black page you refer to: http://www.eltima.com/temp/FolxPages/back.html ?

If you are currently experiencing some issues while uninstalling Folx, follow the instructions below:
Currently, when you simply move Folx application to trash your browser still thinks that Folx plugin is in place and will try to use it.
If you no longer have Folx in your system, please, delete the following components manually as well:
    Library/Internet Plug-Ins/FolxNetscapePlugIn.plugin
    ~User/Library/Application Support/Eltima Software/Folx
    ~User/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/FolxNetscapePlugIn.plugin
    ~User/Library/Preferences/com.eltima.Folx.plist
    Library/InputManagers/FolxIM

  17. Guy said,

No, it was just black. All black. Are idea when a SL friendly folx might be up n running seems plain wrong when things start downloading in safaris downloader after using folx so long.

  18. Alex Taylor said,

    @ Guy -

Then I suppose that the issue you’ve encountered occurs because Folx is not fully compatible with Mac OS 10.6. We are currently working on adding full support of Mac OS 10.6 to Folx. To my knowledge the new version of Folx fully compatible with Snow Leopard will be released within two months or so.

  19. jani said,

    Hi,
Is there a way to set speed limit greater than 720KB/s? I’ve got a 25Mb/s download speed…
Anyway, I just downloaded a few minutes ago Folx, now testing with Rapidshare :) Thanks for this app!

  20. jani said,

Another question: I downloaded files not to the default location (Download folder) but to an other HDD. Why are there 4kb size files with original filenames in Download folder? Is this a feature or is this a bug?

  21. Alex Taylor said,

    @ jani:

Actually, it is not a bug. Each task has a certain tag. If a tag is not selected, the default tag “other” is assigned.

If you changed destination folder for downloaded files, your file will be saved to the destination folder and a hard link for this file will be created in the folder, assigned for the tag.

Therefore, if you don’t want hard links being created, you should change the location for the folders, assigned for the tags as well. Go to Folx main menu -> Preferences -> Folders (http://wiki.eltima.com/files/folx/folders.jpg), right-click the proper tag and select “Set folder” from the shortcut menu.

Displaying higher downstream and upstream speeds of some types of Internet connections will be added in one of the upcoming releases of Folx.
