Welcome New Enhanced Folx!

Hi Everyone! Today we’d like to introduce absolutely new refreshed version of Folx – your 2-in-1 download manager for Mac.
The main transformation is that Folx is now available in two editions – free and PRO.
Free Edition of Folx lets you download any files via HTTP, HTTPS and FTP at the highest speed possible. Folx supports auto-resuming, scheduling, smart folder organization and much more. What we’ve added to the free version of Folx is the ability to download from torrent networks!
Folx PRO provides you with even more control over the torrent downloads. With PRO version you can search for any content available at torrent trackers: files, video, music – just anything – directly from the Folx interface!
Whenever you need to work with any Internet applications, just lower the download speed in Folx, and you won’t even notice it still processes your downloads. In Folx PRO this process is automated, so no need to tune anything manually.
And of course, all features of Folx free version are available in Folx PRO :)
As Folx is still in Beta, all of you, dear readers, can get registration license for Folx PRO absolutely for free.
Just send us an e-mail with “Folx PRO free registration license” in subject line to support@eltima.com and get registration info in return. Please, note that this key will be valid until the final release of Folx is uploaded to our websites.
Your comments, bug reports and suggestions are welcome as usual! So, please, feel free to report us the problems you’ve faced with while using Folx. The most active testers with informative bug reports will get the free upgrade to permanent Folx PRO license.
Note: As Folx has been released on March 9th, 2010, we stop sending free licenses for Folx PRO Beta.
Hurry Up, I love your downloader cause helps me to have my files in order. I don’t want to go back to speed download. Make it run on 64bits and fast on snow leopard
Where the heck do you buy or how do one upgrade to a full. There is not purchase link anywhere. unless i am blind.
Is this build snow leopard compatible?
It is a good tools
imho previous version was better. this new one is unuseable for me.
pros:
-speed limits updated
cons:
-”quit” is very very very sloooooow
-no right-click menu items in safari so unable to batch download files
-no drag n drop
-unable to batch edit files (i.e. add password)
-dbg.log in root folder
(snow leopard 10.6.1, safari 4.0.3)

@ Man -
Yes, it is. But please, note, that 64-bit support has not been added to Folx 0.9.365.366 yet. Currently, it is compatible with Mac OS 10.6 running in 32-bit mode only.
@ jani –
Jani, thanks a lot for your ideas! We highly appreciate your interest in Folx. Concerning your comments:
1. Folx 0.9 quits slower than the previous version, because of the torrents added.
2. Currently, when you’re using Mac OS 10.6 Folx can catch downloads form Safari only if Safari is running in 32-bit mode.
In order to switch Safari to 32-bit mode browse to Safari.app in Finder, right-click Safari.app and select “Get Info” from the shortcut menu, then tick “Open in 32-bit mode” as it is shown on the following picture: http://qsurl.net/archive/6772/4001388894A3AB372C4DBA_m.png.
3. Please, specify, what you mean by “no drag n drop”.
4. Adding password feature will be added in one of the forthcoming releases of Folx.
5. Within a week the update will be released that will fix the issue with dbg.log in root folder.
The bit torrent feature is good, i dont need any bit torrent downloader again, and why the previous version only used the URL while the torrent cant?? Ive been using Folx since May and its good for my download and i tried to upgrade it now the pros version has so much feature… and it more easy to read than the previous version
i wish 2 get pro if you don’t mind

Thanks for your positive comment! The bit torrent support was under development and we were able to add this option in new version only.
okay, i tried new version under 10.5.8 too, safari (4.0.3) context menu came back but doesn’t work at all.
i.e. there are 5 links, select them, right click, download selected with folx, folx’ popup comes, click on add new task and that’s all. the links don’t get into folx, downloading doesn’t start, folx doesn’t do anythng.
i tried with only 1 link at once, it works.
sorry, going back to firefox+dta
I have send an email just as the instruction to get the key number for upgrade to pro version, but still did not have any reply yet. is that all i just need? wait for the reply? or is theres another things to get the pro version? and this is the best software i have then the other similar things..need it so badly
@ jani –
Currently there is a minor issue with assigning multiple downloads at a time with Folx. To my knowledge there will be an update released within a week with this issue fixed.
@ okto Akbar -

Hi,
where i must write bugs?
i’m checking pro version …
The previous version (which I’ve just been forced to upgrade from) was buggy in that the user interface was slow, and it reported inaccurate download speeds, but at least you could tell it to download a load of files, and leave it to get on with the task. It didn’t need to look pretty; it just needed to get on with the job, and that it did.
The current version, as acknowledged above, has the MAJOR issue of not being able to download multiple files. PLEASE fix this soon. Dragging an dropping multiple links doesn’t work, and dragging single links only works for 3 or 4 and then the interface stalls, so it’s not a viable work around.
I had to pause all downloads, reduce download speed to only 7K and only then could I get the interface to accept multiple links before turning off the speed limit again.
Steve
PS Thanks for a very useful tool!!!!!
After it prompted me to upgrade to a new version, the program stopped working. Uninstall and install again doesn’t work. Upgrading to snow leopard didn’t help either. Is anyone experiencing the same problems?
@ lord-byron –
Please, send all your bugs, suggestions and comments at support@eltima.com. Or you may post your ideas at our blog as well. The most active testers will get the free upgrade to permanent Folx PRO license.

You’re always welcome! Yes, currently there is a minor issue with assigning multiple downloads at a time with Folx. To my knowledge there will be an update released within a week with this issue fixed. Stay with our blog and get fresh news about Folx! :)
I don’t know if it is a bug or not but if i wanted all downloads to be saved in the Downloads folder i make a new tag (dmg and zip) and try to set them to go to the downloads folder. Then it says “this folder is already in the list of tags” and reverts to its previous folder. Also i set the default to download to the Downloads folder and it automatically creates a Folx folder in my Downloads folder. I don’t think that it’s a bug but i would like to see an option to not have that folder created. btw, i LOVE Folx!
@ Joseph Reiter -
It is not a bug. There must be a separate folder for each tag and therefore it is not provided to assign two different tags for the same folder.
I assume, “Folx” folder is created in “Downloads” folder because your tags are assigned for /Downloads/Folx/… folders. If you don’t want Folx folder being created, just simply change the locations for each folder assigned for each tag from /Downloads/Folx/… to /Downloads/…
Go to Folx main menu -> Preferences -> Folders (http://wiki.eltima.com/files/folx/folders.jpg), right-click the proper tag and select “Set folder” from the shortcut menu.
Btw, we LOVE Folx too!:)
i think there should be option to use all the connection for downloading, because when i and my friend download from diff pc n software, he took all the connection so my folx can’t even download except a few kbps
i got the registration code,, but i hav no idea where to use it???
@ fath zuhri -
Actually, as far as I understand this is not a Folx issue, because you were downloading from two different computers at the same time.
I suppose, this is the peculiarity of the router that you’re using for Internet connection and in order to control traffic that goes through your router a special software is required. It is beyond the functionality of Folx to control traffic in your local area network.
However, in order to make everything clear, please, answer the following:
What was the program that your friend used for download?
Who started downloading first, you or your friend?
What were you downloading (a torrent or a file using a regular link)?
What was your friend downloading?
hi,
have installed a new version of the folx and now I can not part than I do?
@ daddy Yanke -
Please specify your request.
We’d be happy to help you if you provided more info about the problem you’ve encountered when using Folx.
I like the idea of the tags but if you have more then one tag for one file and like 20 different tags it’s really annoying to change all the folders to THE “download” folder. It would be nice if you can choose several tags and then change the folder. btw what’s the ed2k option for? And why is “quit” sooooo slow?
btw i love Folx!
Folx, won’t quit running snow leopard, updated to the latest version still the same problem. It sits in the dock with a small sign over the top saying quitting. The only way I can shut it down is with a force quit.
@ Sebastian Richner -
We will add an option to change folders for several tags at once, ed2k support and fix the issue with Folx quitting in one of the forthcoming releases of Folx. Btw, detailed information about ed2k can be found here.
@ Andre -
We are aware of this issue and it will be fixed in one of the upcoming releases of Folx.
I would like to recommend you to subscribe to our RSS feed to be first to know about Folx updates.
It would be very handy to sort the peers (Up/Down Speed, Progress, etc.)… And by double clicking a text field (ip adress, client, up/down speed) it appears to be possible to edit it, but (of course) it doesn’t work… Will it be possible to add torrent sites?
@ Sebastian Richner -
Sorting peers option will be added in one of the forthcoming releases of Folx.
The fields that you refer to should not be edited (i.e. ip adress, client, up/down speed). We will fix it in the upcoming release of Folx.
To my knowledge, the upcoming version of Folx will also feature adding torrent trackers for torrent downloads.
Is it compatible with windows7
@ John -
Hi John! No, Folx is currently compatible with Mac OS X only.
Hi! Not exactly bugs but some comments: sometimes when I click Safari the Folx window will pop up (even though i have no active downloads). Also when I use a shortcut to shut down, most programs will exit automatically but Folx will cancel the shutdown and force me to exit Folx manually.
Keep up the great work Folx team!
@ Joe Reiter -
We are aware of these issues and we are currently working on fixing them. Stay with our blog in order to get fresh news about our software or subscribe to our Products Update notifications at the left bottom of any product’s page here. This will enable you to select the product which is of interest to you and receive emails whenever the new build/version is released.
Is there a way of stopping seeding after 100% or a certain time as i have a bandwidth restriction and cannot seed all the time and i am capped on uploads and charged if i go over limit
Otherwise a great download manager
@ Mark Jackson -
Current version of Folx doesn’t feature this option. We will add this feature in one of the upcoming releases of Folx. So please, stay with our blog in order to get the latest news about our software or you can subscribe to our Product Updates notifications here.
There does not seem to be a way of sorting by size as when it loads a torrent you end up with torrent url tag and the actual file and i would like to sort by tag/url and permanently delete tags/url fro hard drive once torrent is complete
If i download attachments from gmail with safari it captures a invalid url and gives me a blank page not the attachment.so to disable or enable this feature would be useful or if you could make and exclude list in preferences
@ Mark Jackson-
First of all – thanks for your comments!:)
1. Current version of Folx sorts downloads of the same rank only by date and time (in the order of adding tasks to downloads list). Tags are sorted by the number of downloads assigned for each tag. Sorting by other criteria will be added in one of the upcoming releases of Folx.
Meanwhile, you can sort tasks manually by applying filters, priorities or dragging a task up or down within the downloads list.
2. It is possible to delete tags with Folx. You can delete all tags, except tag “others” since it is a default tag which is assigned to a download if there are no tags selected for it.
3. We have checked downloading attachments with Folx from Gmail in Safari and haven’t been able to reproduce the issue that refer to. Please, let us know the following:
1) what is the version of Safari is installed at your computer?
2) what is the Mac OS version installed at your computer?
3) what is the type of files that you fail to save with Folx from your Gmail account?
4) please, right-click the attachment you would like to download and select “Download Linked File” from the shortcut menu, so that this download would not be caught by Folx. is your file downloaded correctly this way?
Hi alex sorry for delay in reply as away at work for few days uninstalled folx and reinstalled still get download problems but if no one else has this problem i will rebuild computer and try again as i thin flox is worth persevering with as the interface is so nice an its the app i have been looking for (rss links would be nice and sort by date or seeds on search results) in answer to your query
1 safari4.0.4 (6531.21.10)
2 10.6.2
3 documents attached to e-mails (i have to open them in google docs)
4 no download linked file just gives me url !
Thanks!
Hi
Reinstalled snow leopard with all updates and folx.
It still grabs urls but now does allow me to right-click the attachment and download the attachments the way you suggested so i now have a workaround Thanks
Keep up the good work
Cheers Mark
@ Mark Jackson –
So, as I can understand, now attachments are downloaded correctly with Folx. Right?
Most except google then i have to right click .
i have a screen shot of folx showing the problem i wil send it to you if you give me a e-mail link ?
Cheers
Folx Team:
talking about grabbing URLs and things with Folx,
the chat sound (pop.mp3) keeps getting grabbed by Folx and prompting me to download. possible workaround besides shutting down Folx?
also i don’t know too much about it but a popular school site edline.net when i log in a try to download a file it downloads an index.html instead of the actual file. any help?
Edit:
Above i forgot to mention that the sound pop.mp3 is in Facebook chat. using Safari 4 64 bit kernal
@ Mark Jackson -
Mark, you can send your screenshot at support@eltima.com.
@ Joe Reiter -
1. chat sound (pop.mp3) keeps getting grabbed by Folx
Please, disable Folx plug-in while chatting in Facebook: http://wiki.eltima.com/knowledge-base/folx/disable-plugin.html
2. popular school site edline.net when i log in a try to download a file it downloads an index.html instead of the actual file
This website requires authentication. When downloading from this website please, tick “Authorized access” and enter your name and password in “New Download Task” window: http://wiki.eltima.com/user-guides/downloader-macos/add-new-task.html
If you still fail to download this file correctly with Folx, please, open resulting HTML file and see what it says. Most likely it contains a description of the error occurred. Please, let us know this information.
As an option, please, try to download this file with your browser and see if the file is downloaded correctly.
Hi,
Unable to catch download links from a few sites, I’m using firefox. Is there any issue with it ? Downloaded it today :) The interface is pretty neat.
Suggestion: An option could be added such that we can make the status window transparent/translucent and also a provision to tweak the degree of translucence.
Just a cosmetic suggestion.. hope it helps.
Regards,
@ Chaitanya -
Please, provide us with the download links that Folx fails to catch from your browser for investigation.

This is the log for using the authenticated user when downloading files from edline. Using Safari 4 and right clicking a link > save file as works perfectly.
@ Joe Reiter –
We will investigate the issue that you’ve encountered and as soon as we find out why it occurs, we will fix it.
One thing that i just notice:
the link to my classes is https: //www.edline.net/ pages/GHS/ Classes/ 498OA_01
because it is using https for secure connections is it even possible to catch the download because the password would be encrypted (unless i am mistaken in my information which i very might be). Just wanted to share all the information i have with you guys.
@ Joe Reiter -
Please, specify whether you enter your authentication information (login/password) in “New download task” dialog in Folx when you add a download from https: //www.edline.net/ ?
yes, i have been trying the authentication information. one such file is https:// www. edline.net/ files/302cf8740032f2943745a49013852ec4/marloweraleighperiod6.pptx
when clicked in safari the new download box pops up and i click the authenticated user, input my information and hit add. i have also tried adding it directly in Folx. The file does not download. sometimes it says resumable error but resuming the download still does not download the file.
@ Joe Reiter -
Please, try to download this file via a different browser (i.e. Firefox 3.5) with Folx and let us know the results.
If Folx catches the download from Firefox but this download will not be processed correctly, it would be helpful for us if you perform the following:
1. Install LiveHTTPHeaders add-on in Firefox for viewing HTTP requests.
2. Reproduce the issue that you’ve encountered in Firefox and send us the log from httplive.
Thank you.
Would be nice to have the feature to be able to copy multiple links and Folx could catch them all, this was a feature I really liked with flashget on the PC.All you had to do was highlight the links and right click and select copy, flashget would then pop up and add all the links. I hope in the future folx will be able to do this.
I emailed the logs to support@eltima.com. Sorry for the late reply.
@ Joe Reiter –
Thanks, our Support Team will reply you soon. Merry Christmas!:)
There’s something that makes me feels annoyed.
If I have multiple files to be downloaded, somehow at certain point (varies) it stopped downloading, I need to restart the application to make itu download again (sometimes I need to download all over again, it just won’t start). Is this a bug or only me?
I’m using Snow Leopard 10.6.2
@ Erick -
We are ready to investigate the issue that you’ve encountered. Please, provide us with the following information so that we may take a closer look at the current issue:
1. URL for the file which causes this issue at your computer.
2. Folx download log for this download. For more information about Folx downloads log, please, visit: http://wiki.eltima.com/knowledge-base/folx/copy-log.html
