Great news for USB to Ethernet Connector for Linux users – update is released! Moreover this update is absolutely FREE for all registered users!
What’s new in this build.
- USB to Ethernet Connector kernel module works on ARM architecture (little-endian) now.
- We’ve added the possibility of in-tree compilation (as part of kernel sources).
- USB to Ethernet Connector can be now compiled on Linux kernel v. 2.6.24 and higher, including 3.1.Х.
- We’ve also added several significant fixes (kernel panic on systems with the modified kernel was fixed; dynamic power management issue, when devices entered “suspended” state and could not be used by the client part of USB to Ethernet Connector, was fixed too).
- Our developers have also improved the support of USB devices with isochronous OUT transfer (like headphones) and Unix domain socket is now created in /var/tmp/com.eltima.eveusb catalog for security purpose.
- Overall stability improvement.
This is by far not the full list of all improvements added to this build. You will find the detailed changelog here.

We’ve announced USB to Ethernet Connector 4 Beta about a month ago, and today we are proud to inform you that USB to Ethernet Connector is no longer beta – welcome USB to Ethernet Connector 4!
First of all, we’d like to thank all of you, who downloaded and tested beta version, providing us with valuable usage experiences. We highly appreciate your feedback and assistance in helping us improving our software.
So the main difference between new and previous versions is that USB to Ethernet Connector 4 for Windows is compatible with Linux version (which is totally new)! As a result, different combinations of server-client model can be applied, for example, you can share USB device on Linux and connect to it from Windows computer, and vice versa.
We added support for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 Beta.

New version of USB to Ethernet Connector supports external USB sound cards and offers you two types of connection with remote devices – “Connect” and “Connect once” (allows establishing one-time connection. It also allows you labeling USB devices thus simplifying their identification if you have several devices of the same type shared. Disabling connection is now possible from the server side.
USB to Ethernet Connector 4 also displays computer name of the client which currently occupies a shared USB device to other clients on the network.
We’ve expanded features list for OEM license owners too! Starting from version 4, we offer OEM clients sample code for major development environments. We also simplified the way to control USB devices (both on server and client machines) from your own application by adding a special DLL and added a possibility to initiate connection with a client from a server side (callback connection).
Among other new options and improvements are: expanded list of supported webcams; special icon is assigned to devices if traffic encryption and authorization were set on the server to secure the connection; improved USB dongles support and overall program stability.
You can find the full list of all improvements and innovations here.

Hey, Linux users, this post is for you! Though Eltima is well known as a developer of Windows and Mac software, we just released our first software for Linux. As the title says, this is Serial to Ethernet Connector, the analogue of the product that is already familiar to Windows OS users and developers.
Serial to Ethernet Connector (also referred to as SEC) is a professional solution, which allows sharing over Internet or LAN any number of serial ports (real or virtual) on your computer. Multiple computers (clients) can connect to your computer (server) and communicate with shared devices as if those devices were connected directly to client computers. And with Serial to Ethernet Connector for Linux you can choose whether Linux or Windows OS will be a client or a server.
With Serial to Ethernet Connector for Linux you can share an unlimited number of serial ports simultaneously for remote connections over TCP/IP network, choose data transmission protocol, which will be used for connection, manage real serial port signal lines’ states in connections and dynamically change connection parameters without reopening or re-creating it.
Among the additional features are the following ones: possibility to customize advanced connection settings, set pauses after which all received data is sent to the remote end when using UDP or TCP as underlay protocol, set period of time after which TCP client will try to restore connection if connection was dropped and lots more.
Please, note that Serial to Ethernet Connector for Linux is a command-line product at the moment.
And what about demo limitations, Eltima offers you 14-day fully functional trial version for evaluation purposes.

So, if you need to share any serial port device over network (LAN or Internet) among Linux or Windows computers, be sure, Serial to Ethernet Connector will do the job for you!
And as usual, your comments and ideas about SEC for Linux are more than welcome!
