SyncMate tips. Issue #4. Syncing SOHO Organizer with Android, Win Mobile or any other device

iCloud & SM

Those of you who don’t like built-in Address Book or iCal on Mac OS X have probably looked for their alternatives. SOHO Organizer is one of them. It is nice and user-friendly, but it cannot sync data with your Android phone or Google account, for example.

So if you are one of those Mac users who use SOHO Organizer instead of iCal and Address Book (or only looking for their replacement), here is how you can sync data in SOHO Organizer with multiple devices. Let’s take Android phone as an example.

Step 1. You will need to install SOHO Organizer on your Mac (can be downloaded here).

Step 2. Enable data sync between SOHO Organizer and your Mac.

- Launch SOHO Organizer.

- Go to “Preferences”.

- Choose “Sync” tab and check “Contacts” or “Calendars” boxes.

Now your contacts and calendars will be synced from SOHO Organizer to Address Book and iCal on your Mac.

Step 3. To sync data on Mac with Android (or any other device) you will need to install SyncMate on your Mac. SyncMate syncs contacts and calendars for absolutely free:)

- Launch SyncMate.

- Create new connection with your Android device (Android can be connected via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or USB; do not forget to install SyncMate Module for Android on your device (link at http://www.sync-mac.com/download/SyncMate.apk).

- Choose Contacts and iCal plugins in SyncMate and manage their settings.

- Sync your data from your Mac to device.

Voila! Your contacts and calendar entries are synced between SOHO Organizer and Android device.

Step 4. SyncMate allows syncing contacts and calendars for free not only with your Android device, but with other mobile phones (Windows Mobile and Nokia S40), other Mac and Windows computers, iOS devices, Google and Dropbox accounts and so on. The full list of supported devices and sync options offered for each of them can be found here.

So just create a new connection in SyncMate and you are ready to sync.

P.S.: Using some other Mac organizer? Let us know about it and we will test if it is compatible with SyncMate and talk about it on our blog.

iCloud support is on the way!

icloud

iCloud fans, rejoice! SyncMate will support direct sync of your iCal and Address Book with iCloud calendars and contacts soon.

And not only iCloud! Our developers are currently working on adding the support for any online service using CardDAV and CalDAV protocols.

Once the possibility to sync with these services is added, CardDAV and CalDAV will appear in SyncMate wizard as separate connections. Users will be able to pick any service that supports these protocols from the list or add their own and sync iCal and Address Book entries with it.

Among the most popular services using CardDav or CalDAV protocols are iCloud, Yahoo, and others.

Do not miss this release – stay tuned to our blog and follow SyncMate updates on Facebook.

SyncMate Tips. Issue #3. Syncing with online storages

Posted by Alex Taylor on December 9th, 2011

iCloud & SM

Fresh tips for SyncMate users delivered – check them out, hot and crispy :)

Connect online storage as a mounted device

Yes, it is possible. If the online storage  uses WebDAV protocol, your account in this storage can be mounted to your Mac as a disk and you can browse its content on Mac, not even logging in to it in web browser.

All you need to do is enter the link to your account in Finder and it will appear as the additional Mac disk that can be synced with SyncMate (choose Mounted storage device connection in SyncMate wizard).

Sync online storages with supported devices

With SyncMate you can sync data in any supported device with online storage you are currently using (even if it is not yet supported by SyncMate).

Note: this trick is possible only if online storage creates a folder on your Mac, like Dropbox for example. You will only need to pick this folder in Folders plugin and sync it with any folder on supported device.

Of course, this option is valid for Folders sync only and for the devices that support folders sync option.

SyncMate 3.5 is here and brings you several important updates. Make yourself comfortable and keep on reading.

Android Ice Cream Sandwich devices are now supported!

Yes, SyncMate is now fully compatible with Android 4.x devices, so if your phone or tablet runs this delicious OS it can be synced with your Mac (don’t forget to install the latest build of SyncMate module for Android on your device).

SyncMate will sync contacts and calendars between Mac and Ice Cream Sandwich devices for free. Expert version will sync images, music, videos, folders, and Safari bookmarks (all these data can be synced automatically). SyncMate Expert will also let you manage SMS messages directly on Mac, mount Android as a Mac disk, and more.

iOS 5 devices sync is out of Beta!

So now you can sync your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch running iOS 5 with Mac and be sure – data will be perfectly updated on both devices.

SyncMate will sync Address Book and iCal entries between Mac and iOS 5 devices for free. iTunes, iPhoto, Safari bookmarks, folders, Entourage and Mail notes can be synced with Expert version. All above data can be synced automatically.

Moreover you can mount iOS 5 devices as Mac disks and browse their content on Mac.

You will find the full list of sync options available for all devices SyncMate supports here.

This update is absolutely free for you if you are a registered user of SyncMate 3.x. If you are a registered user of SyncMate 1.x or 2.x, you can upgrade with 50% discount.

SyncMate Tips. Issue#2. Move iCal events back on Mac after using iCloud

Posted by Alex Taylor on November 4th, 2011

iCloud & SM

Those of you who have already used iCloud know that contacts and calendar events are transferred to iCloud from your Mac automatically and are no longer placed on your Mac: they are transferred to iCloud once you enable it.

If you do not want to use iCloud any longer you can just disable it or uncheck iCloud for definite Mac apps – iCal, Address Book, and so on.

When disabling iCloud for Address Book, you are offered to keep contacts on Mac, delete contacts or cancel disabling process. If you need to disable iCloud for Address Book and move contacts from iCloud to a Mac, just choose “Keep contacts” option.

But when it comes to disabling iCloud for iCal and moving events back to your Mac – there is a problem. iCloud doesn’t offer you to keep events on Mac, but offers you to cancel disabling or delete iCal events! If you choose to delete events, they will be automatically deleted from your Mac (Even though they will be still stored in iCloud).

So what to do if you no longer want to store private calendars in iCloud and want them back on your Mac or to sync them with your Android device, or other?

Of course, if you have backed up your iCal data previously, restoring them on Mac is not a problem. But let’s face the truth, we back up our data not as often as we should have.

However SyncMate users can solve this issue for absolutely FREE.

BUT THIS WILL ONLY WORK IF YOU SYNCED YOUR CALENDARS BEFORE AND HAVE IDENTICAL EVENTS ON THE DEVICE SUPPORTED BY SYNCMATE. Please read carefully before implementing:

1. Manually delete all calendars from iCal and they will be automatically deleted from iCloud.

2. Disable calendars sync in iCloud.

3. If you synced your iCal on Mac with calendars on your device with SyncMate before (Android, Windows Mobile, Nokia S40, Google or Dropbox account, iOS devices, Sony PSP or SyncMate online storage) you can now sync them back to your Mac – just connect the device and choose one-way sync direction – from device to Mac.

Actually if you never synced with SyncMate before, but have a supported device or account with the same calendar events as you had on your Mac, you can sync them from device to Mac.

And as I mentioned before, SyncMate will do this for free, because iCal sync is available in SyncMate Free edition.

IMPORTANT! Please make sure SyncMate is compatible with the device or account you want to sync calendars from and offers iCal sync for it before deleting iCal events on Mac. Check your device’s compatibility.
