Personal Background: Eric Pratsch is a 4th year Systems and Information Engineer at the University of Virginia. He is working on his final undergraduate Capstone Project with 4 other Systems Engineers.

Alex Taylor: What challenges made you search for the software of this kind?

Eric Pratsch: Our capstone project is focused on determining behavioral profiles in a cyber environment. This is aimed at being applied towards cyber security. Our hypothesis is that an individual is unique and creates a pattern of decisions when navigating through cyber space. This pattern can be found through inverse reinforcement learning and behavioral cloning. Since our team does not have the resources available to have our own network, we decided to track a person’s movement through a shopping environment. All buttons clicked, words typed, and screenshots need to be recorded to have an accurate description of their behavioral patterns. With enough subjects we can also break down demographics to determine whether, for example males tend to exhibit behavior X more than females.

Alex Taylor: How did you get to know about Powered Keylogger by Eltima Software?

Eric Pratsch: I took a certification course called Certified Ethical Hacker when I interned for Booz Allen Hamilton last summer as a part of their cyber security cohort. Keyloggers and specifically, the Powered Keylogger was described in the course.

Eric Pratsch: Before the trial ran out, we were keeping a log of every website, word typed, and general screenshots during testing of subjects in our shopping environment experiment. This data was then broken down in to categories of behaviors.

Whether you’ve been using Powered Keylogger for a couple of days, or already a fan of this keylogging software for a couple of years - it doesn’t matter. We all know that Powered Keylogger was developed to provide you with maximum information about what other people do on your computer when you are away. Obtaining information, you obtain control!

Well, as far as Powered Keylogger is such a massive and multi-functional tool with lots of features, it seems complicated to puzzle out how to filter all those logs that are being saved all days. Sitting and just looking through all of them will take loads of time and get you lost in all that amount of information.

When you need to search for something special inside all those logs, something specific that has been typed in particular applications or definite applications that have been launched - there is nothing easier than to filter the logs and find exactly what you need!

All you have to do is to choose the kind of logs you want to filter. In this case we are filtering keystrokes, as you can see in the tab, which says “Logs - Keystrokes”.

To change the type of logs you want to filter, just select this tab and the whole list of logs will appear. To view if there were logs on this date you want to filter - go to the “Calendar” tab. The days having logs will be shown in bold in the calendar.

So, we are filtering keystroke log. We select the monitored user in the “user name” drop-down window. In “application name” tab we select the application in which the keystrokes we are looking for were typed. In “window caption” tab we choose in what active window those keystrokes were typed.

After you have chosen all the parameters by which you want to filter the log, press “Filter logs now” arrow. This will get the process started.

After filtering you will see the result: in what application and in what window exactly the monitored user was typing. And what exactly they he or she was typing.

All of the logs can be filtered in this way. Just select the type of logs you want to filter, a user, application name and window caption! In a few seconds you will obtain the precise information you wanted. And no need to dig through masses of logs Powered Keylogger saves in its folders.

3 Minor Major Updates
