SyncMate tips. Issue #4. Syncing SOHO Organizer with Android, Win Mobile or any other device

iCloud & SM

Those of you who don’t like built-in Address Book or iCal on Mac OS X have probably looked for their alternatives. SOHO Organizer is one of them. It is nice and user-friendly, but it cannot sync data with your Android phone or Google account, for example.

So if you are one of those Mac users who use SOHO Organizer instead of iCal and Address Book (or only looking for their replacement), here is how you can sync data in SOHO Organizer with multiple devices. Let’s take Android phone as an example.

Step 1. You will need to install SOHO Organizer on your Mac (can be downloaded here).

Step 2. Enable data sync between SOHO Organizer and your Mac.

- Launch SOHO Organizer.

- Go to “Preferences”.

- Choose “Sync” tab and check “Contacts” or “Calendars” boxes.

Now your contacts and calendars will be synced from SOHO Organizer to Address Book and iCal on your Mac.

Step 3. To sync data on Mac with Android (or any other device) you will need to install SyncMate on your Mac. SyncMate syncs contacts and calendars for absolutely free:)

- Launch SyncMate.

- Create new connection with your Android device (Android can be connected via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or USB; do not forget to install SyncMate Module for Android on your device (link at http://www.sync-mac.com/download/SyncMate.apk).

- Choose Contacts and iCal plugins in SyncMate and manage their settings.

- Sync your data from your Mac to device.

Voila! Your contacts and calendar entries are synced between SOHO Organizer and Android device.

Step 4. SyncMate allows syncing contacts and calendars for free not only with your Android device, but with other mobile phones (Windows Mobile and Nokia S40), other Mac and Windows computers, iOS devices, Google and Dropbox accounts and so on. The full list of supported devices and sync options offered for each of them can be found here.

So just create a new connection in SyncMate and you are ready to sync.

P.S.: Using some other Mac organizer? Let us know about it and we will test if it is compatible with SyncMate and talk about it on our blog.

SyncMate Tips. Issue #3. Syncing with online storages

iCloud & SM

Fresh tips for SyncMate users delivered – check them out, hot and crispy :)

Connect online storage as a mounted device

Yes, it is possible. If the online storage  uses WebDAV protocol, your account in this storage can be mounted to your Mac as a disk and you can browse its content on Mac, not even logging in to it in web browser.

All you need to do is enter the link to your account in Finder and it will appear as the additional Mac disk that can be synced with SyncMate (choose Mounted storage device connection in SyncMate wizard).

Sync online storages with supported devices

With SyncMate you can sync data in any supported device with online storage you are currently using (even if it is not yet supported by SyncMate).

Note: this trick is possible only if online storage creates a folder on your Mac, like Dropbox for example. You will only need to pick this folder in Folders plugin and sync it with any folder on supported device.

Of course, this option is valid for Folders sync only and for the devices that support folders sync option.

SyncMate Tips. Issue#2. Move iCal events back on Mac after using iCloud

Posted by Alex Taylor on November 4th, 2011

iCloud & SM

Those of you who have already used iCloud know that contacts and calendar events are transferred to iCloud from your Mac automatically and are no longer placed on your Mac: they are transferred to iCloud once you enable it.

If you do not want to use iCloud any longer you can just disable it or uncheck iCloud for definite Mac apps – iCal, Address Book, and so on.

When disabling iCloud for Address Book, you are offered to keep contacts on Mac, delete contacts or cancel disabling process. If you need to disable iCloud for Address Book and move contacts from iCloud to a Mac, just choose “Keep contacts” option.

But when it comes to disabling iCloud for iCal and moving events back to your Mac – there is a problem. iCloud doesn’t offer you to keep events on Mac, but offers you to cancel disabling or delete iCal events! If you choose to delete events, they will be automatically deleted from your Mac (Even though they will be still stored in iCloud).

So what to do if you no longer want to store private calendars in iCloud and want them back on your Mac or to sync them with your Android device, or other?

Of course, if you have backed up your iCal data previously, restoring them on Mac is not a problem. But let’s face the truth, we back up our data not as often as we should have.

However SyncMate users can solve this issue for absolutely FREE.

BUT THIS WILL ONLY WORK IF YOU SYNCED YOUR CALENDARS BEFORE AND HAVE IDENTICAL EVENTS ON THE DEVICE SUPPORTED BY SYNCMATE. Please read carefully before implementing:

1. Manually delete all calendars from iCal and they will be automatically deleted from iCloud.

2. Disable calendars sync in iCloud.

3. If you synced your iCal on Mac with calendars on your device with SyncMate before (Android, Windows Mobile, Nokia S40, Google or Dropbox account, iOS devices, Sony PSP or SyncMate online storage) you can now sync them back to your Mac – just connect the device and choose one-way sync direction – from device to Mac.

Actually if you never synced with SyncMate before, but have a supported device or account with the same calendar events as you had on your Mac, you can sync them from device to Mac.

And as I mentioned before, SyncMate will do this for free, because iCal sync is available in SyncMate Free edition.

IMPORTANT! Please make sure SyncMate is compatible with the device or account you want to sync calendars from and offers iCal sync for it before deleting iCal events on Mac. Check your device’s compatibility.

SyncMate Tips. Issue#1. How to connect Android 3 tablet to a Mac via USB?

Posted by Alex Taylor on October 25th, 2011

tips

Hey everyone, welcome to our Tips & Tricks area, where we will reveal useful tips for SyncMate users from time to time.

How to connect Android 3 tablet to a Mac via USB?

Imagine, you’ve finally got your long-awaited Android 3 tablet and can’t take your eyes from it: it’s stylish, it’s multifunctional, it’s perfect.

“I want to have my music and photos on it!” you think, and connect your brand new  device to your Mac but… nothing happens. The device is not detected by a Mac as it was with the earlier versions of Android OS and you may think something is wrong with your Android 3 device or its USB cable. Maybe you are even thinking of returning it back to the store.

In fact, the scenario described above is very typical for those Mac users who acquired an Android 3 tablet. But the true reason is – Android 3 devices simply cannot be mounted to your Mac in a way Android 2.x used to.

SyncMate solves this problem and allows mounting your Android 3 device as a Mac disk and browsing  its content on Mac in Finder (Mount disk option*). You can easily transfer any files from your Mac to Android and vice versa in a simple, familiar manner. You can also view the images, play the videos and tracks without copying them to your Mac. Moreover, if you are transferring any files to (or from) your Android, you can still browse through other files your device contains as SyncMate works in a multithreading mode.

Note! In order to sync your Mac and Android you will also need to install SyncMate module for Android on your device (do not be confused if you don’t find SyncMate client module in Android Market, we are currently solving this issue. Meanwhile you can download it from our website).

*Mount disk option is offered in SyncMate Expert Edition.

7 Benefits SyncMate Offers to Dropbox Users

Posted by Alex Taylor on August 11th, 2011

Dropbox & SyncMate Team

Since SyncMate 3.1 was released this June, we often receive the same question from our users – “Why did you add Dropbox sync support?”

The main explanation is that SyncMate adds new features to a well known Dropbox – and today I will reveal some of them.

Tip # 1. Sync what you want.

When SyncMate is installed on your Mac you can store contacts and calendars, Entourage and Mail notes, Safari Bookmarks and ToDos in your Dropbox account too. Simply sync this data between Mac and Dropbox with the help of SyncMate.

Besides above personal data, SyncMate also allows syncing images, videos, music and folders between Mac and Dropbox account.

Tip # 2. Get access to your personal data from any spot on the globe.

Once your personal data is synced from your Mac to Dropbox account, it can be easily accessed from any other Mac with SyncMate on it. E.g.: you have synced your Mac desktop calendar to Dropbox. Now all appointments can be easily added to your MacBook Pro calendar even if you are thousands of miles away from your desktop Mac – just sync them.

Tip # 3. Sync data with several Dropbox accounts simultaneously.

SyncMate helps you sync data between Mac and several Dropbox accounts – just add any quantity of Dropbox accounts to SyncMate and sync all of them simultaneously. This is rather convenient when you need to share files with your colleagues – in such case files you are syncing with several Dropbox accounts will be automatically updated in all required Dropbox folders, there will be no need to download them.

Tip # 4. Sync automatically.

With SyncMate you can sync data between your Mac and Dropbox account automatically. Just customize the sync once and the settings will be applied during following sync sessions. You can set SyncMate to sync data every X minutes, X hours or X days.

Tip # 5. Sync safely.

No need to worry about data safety when syncing it between your Mac and Dropbox with SyncMate. First off, you are logging in to your Dropbox account via HTTPS channel.

And you have a possibility to protect your data with a password before syncing it to your Dropbox account. No need to worry that the synced data can be viewed by anyone but you.

Tip #6. Sync fast.

Imagine you have a Dropbox account with 50GB data, but need to sync only one folder in it with your Mac. SyncMate will save your time as it syncs only the data, you need to be synced instead of updating the whole Dropbox folder with all 50GB of files in it.

Tip #7. Sync easily.

When syncing with SyncMate you can sync data between Mac and Dropbox account directly. No need to transfer music to the Dropbox folder to share it – just sync tracks from iTunes! You can easily back up data to Dropbox account directly from Mac apps – iTunes, iPhoto, Address Book, iCal, Safari, Entourage or Mail (when syncing notes).

Have got your own tips & tricks of using Dropbox with SyncMate? Feel free to share them!

Add your App to Mac App Store – Flash’In’App will assist!

Posted by Alex Taylor on August 9th, 2011

FlashInApp

If you are thinking about developing an app for Mac App Store (or already doing that), this post is for you!

Flash’In’App by Eltima Software is a powerful Cocoa framework which allows implementing Adobe Flash Player component into your app without writing a single line of code. A set of classes, contained in Flash’In’App framework, will let any application play SWF files, manage their playback, communicate with them via External API, FSCommands or Variables, control external resources loading, etc.

Flash’In’App classes enable your applications to interact with Flash Player.plugin and SWF files themselves.

We are pleased to let you know that two of our apps which were created with the help of Flash’In’App (Flash Decompiler and Soufflé), were successfully submitted and approved by Mac App Store team. So, using Flash’In’App in your app will help you faster develop a relevant software for Mac App Store (of course, if your program doesn’t violate any requirements of Mac App Store).

Feel free to comment here if you have any questions about Flash’In’App, we are here to assist.
