Claudio Corniani: Our challenge has been to provide our customer with a new mode of communication (Ethernet) in addition to the existing bus RS485 without modification of the existing software application already installed at our customer. The final goal is to provide our customers with a new type of products and services based on Ethernet Port .

Claudio Corniani: Yes, we tried, but preferred your product because of greater integration of virtualization of the serial ports, like physical devices.

Alex Taylor: Please, describe how you are using our product now.

Claudio Corniani: We have developed a new hardware board, highly dedicated to our products, which can act as a bridge between the previous type of connection (communication bus) and new Ethernet port. Your service undertakes to virtualize a new serial port and redirect the communication traffic to the Ethernet port, without other modification on our original software application. In this way our customer can continue using our software with a new hardware interface communication. User graphical interface of a Virtual Com Port has been highly customized to our product to simplify the configuration for our customer.

Alex Taylor: How did you benefit from using Serial to Ethernet Connector?

Claudio Corniani: The simplicity of integration and OEM license, have permitted us to produce a high quality and impact device software, featuring more our new product.

Alex Taylor: Was there anything you didn’t like or would like to change in our software? Would you like to offer new features to be added?

Claudio Corniani: All accesses to the sec.dll are through tag commands. To simplify, I implement specific commands with specific answers.

Matthew Ahrenstein: I work far from home, and lately it’s become difficult to work without syncing my phone during the day. Hendrik Onnes: I do a lot of offshore racing. For that racing I need my instrument data on my PC for navigation, route planning, analysis and gathering weather forecasts.
On my yacht we do the navigation on a PC which is connected to a GPS and other navigation instruments. The data from the navigation instruments needs to be shared with several applications running on my PC.

I cannot link more than one application to one data source. Therefore I have been looking for solution to distribute the data to more than one navigation program. After this we will develop software to divide information in separate process. The debug information goes to log file and the commands to the software Master application. Now we need to have two ports in our hardware: one for commands and other for debug. But with you software we need to have only one port in our hardware.

Louis-Philippe Gagnon is a 25 year old student who lives in Quebec City. He always liked sciences and completed a Bachelor of Physics Engineering. The last year he discovered the world of cancer treatment by the use of radiation. Since that moment he worked hard to be accepted in the Medical Physics program of the Laval University in Quebec City. Alex Taylor: What challenges made you search for the software of this kind?

Louis-Philippe Gagnon: When I’m doing experimental measurements of radiation with my detectors, I need to connect my cameras (USB 2.0) to my laptop to acquire my images. The problem is that I need to be out of the shielding bunker approximately 70 feet from the camera. This is too big for an USB 2.0 cable. I needed a way to extend the length of my cable to connect the cameras to the laptop because I can’t run the cameras from another computer. It needs to be from my laptop.

Alex Taylor: How did you get to know about USB Network Gate by Eltima?

Louis-Philippe Gagnon: I searched over the Internet to find a solution and I found your website with a description of your software USB Network Gate. It seemed to be an excellent solution to extend my cable without losing the capability of the USB 2.0 data transfer rate.

Alex Taylor: Did you try other products for the same task before choosing Eltima solution? Why did you prefer our product?

Louis-Philippe Gagnon: I tried other products before but some of them where complicated to use (need of an external server and an internet connection, etc.) and others where enable to provide the USB 2.0 transfer rate. The Eltima solution is the only one that is very easy to use and provide the USB 2.0 capability even if the Ethernet cable is very long. We install only one application that can be the server or the client, and the connection between my computers is always easy to achieve. I never had a problem with the Eltima software, but a lot of gray hairs with the other solutions.

Alex Taylor: Please, describe how you are using our product now.

Louis-Philippe Gagnon: Now, I can connect my cameras to a little computer into the shielding bunker of a radiotherapy treatment room, and connect this computer to my laptop via an Ethernet cable 100 feet long. Using the USB Network Gate Software, my laptop thinks that the cameras are directly connected on it so I can drive them from the outside on my laptop.

Alex Taylor: How did you benefit from using Eltima solution?

Louis-Philippe Gagnon: Using this software made me save a lot of money because I didn’t need to buy a physical USB 2.0 to Ethernet adaptor that cost about $500 to damage it with radiation for my experimentation.

COMMSOFT has been developing consumer software for over 34 years. In 1997 COMMSOFT sold its main product line to another company, and Howard became an independent software developer. His main product is for amateur radio operators who wish to control their equipment from a computer.

Alex Taylor: What challenges made you search for the software of this kind?

Howard Nurse: My amateur radio program provides a wide range of features for ham radio operators, including radio control, contact logging, and many aids that help users communicate with distant stations. The amateur radio software market is surprisingly robust, with many developers offering creative solutions for specialized needs. Rather than duplicate their efforts in my own product, I needed a way for my program to seamlessly connect to others using null modem serial ports.
