Programmers are usually very busy and cannot be distracted from work for any reason. To develop a good application they need to concentrate deeply on their work. But is it that easy? The chaos of busy office is very well known: noise of the processors, clicking keyboards, discussions among the colleagues… Getting on to the right track is just so hard sometimes. So what a developer can do in this case?

Our fellow developers were looking hard for a solution. Some of them were trying to listen to a favorite music playlists, some – favorite radio station. But a radio or a playlist gets you bored with the time passing and doesn’t always correspond with your taste. Trying to watch the clips or movies didn’t work either, cause you can’t be in two places at once, even if it’s all in the monitor.

The kitchen became the place for discussions on “how to concentrate on work and ignore the office noises”.
At last came up a decision to listen to the environmental sounds. This idea was well received and approved. After all, the nature sounds make us feel more comfortable than computers’ noise.

A while ago similar software was developed for Windows OS and was installed by almost all programmers at their machines. The similar Mac software also existed. But most of such solutions had a nuance, which I personally consider a disadvantage.

The thing is, in order to dip into a virtual environment you have to adjust it first: select the sounds you need, set the appropriate order for them, etc. Manual adjustment takes really lots of time.

Our programmers were busy trying to find the ideal solution that wouldn’t require so much time to set it appropriately and will really enwrap them in an atmosphere they need for more efficient working process. At last they simply decided to develop their own software that will satisfy all these requirements and will be easy to use and as close to the real environment as possible.

This is how Elsewhere was born. Elsewhere doesn’t require much effort, it has a tiny interface, only the necessary settings, and lots of pleasure!

Going back to the development process – that wasn’t easy at all! The sounds are so usual, we don’t even notice them in everyday life, but when you actually start making the selection for the application you realize that some sounds combined with the others can be irritating, or just don’t sound as you want them to.
While developing each sound atmosphere for Elsewhere (currently Beach, Wood, and City) we had lots of discussions and debates. Some sounds triggered so different associations in each of us. But that was definitely worth it, because what came out of it is definitely what we sought for.

So… the advantages of Elsewhere.

First of all Elsewhere emits sounds absolutely randomly, no repeats or routine playlists. Even its developers don’t know what sounds they will hear the next moment.
Also we tried to create as realistic atmosphere as possible by organizing day and night sounds naturally. For example you won’t hear the birds’ twitter at midnight, but the owl’s hoot of course. The atmosphere around you changes gradually depending on the time of day.

This app turned out to be not just a small solution for our programmers, but an extremely convenient utility for anyone craving for peace and concentration.

3. When you are asked to enter URL of a remote server, enter https://caldav.icloud.com if you want to sync calendars and https://carddav.icloud.com if you want to sync contacts.

4. Log in to your iCloud account.

5. You are ready to sync!

We’ve polished Beta version and are ready to present Elsewhere 1.0 to you. Please note that Beta version will no longer work.

A long-awaited upgrade of Serial to Ethernet Connector for PC* is here – welcome version 6!

Our developers worked hard on adding new features and polishing the existing ones and here what we’ve got in result.

The first novelty, which won’t go unnoticed, is new interface. Starting from version 6 the interface becomes more logical and user friendly. As a result creating connections and managing them is even more convenient (connections are comprehensively visualized).

We’ve also improved Serial to Ethernet Connector for PC functionality. Among the newly added features are:

- totally redesigned interface;

- you can now specify several remote computers for simultaneous UDP connection;

- possibility to turn off Serial to Ethernet Connector (requires Administrator rights and permits to temporarily disable created connections without deleting them);

- possibility to create sample client-server pair to see how Serial to Ethernet Connector works;

- you can check connection’s summary and statistics (available upon click on the required connection in the tree);

- Serial to Ethernet Connector can now be run and used (including the registration procedure) under user account;

- support for Ipv6 and beta version of Windows 8 was added;

We can’t physically deliver you to the beach or make your noisy colleagues disappear, but what we can do for sure is bring serenity into your fussy days with Elsewhere.

SyncMate tips. Issue #4. Syncing SOHO Organizer with Android, Win Mobile or any other device

Those of you who don’t like built-in Address Book or iCal on Mac OS X have probably looked for their alternatives. SOHO Organizer is one of them. It is nice and user-friendly, but it cannot sync data with your Android phone or Google account, for example.

So if you are one of those Mac users who use SOHO Organizer instead of iCal and Address Book (or only looking for their replacement), here is how you can sync data in SOHO Organizer with multiple devices. Let’s take Android phone as an example.

Step 1. You will need to install SOHO Organizer on your Mac (can be downloaded here).

Step 2. Enable data sync between SOHO Organizer and your Mac.

- Launch SOHO Organizer.

- Go to “Preferences”.

- Choose “Sync” tab and check “Contacts” or “Calendars” boxes.

Now your contacts and calendars will be synced from SOHO Organizer to Address Book and iCal on your Mac.

Step 3. To sync data on Mac with Android (or any other device) you will need to install SyncMate on your Mac. SyncMate syncs contacts and calendars for absolutely free:)

- Launch SyncMate.

- Create new connection with your Android device (Android can be connected via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or USB; do not forget to install SyncMate Module for Android on your device (link at http://www.sync-mac.com/download/SyncMate.apk).

- Choose Contacts and iCal plugins in SyncMate and manage their settings.

- Sync your data from your Mac to device.

Voila! Your contacts and calendar entries are synced between SOHO Organizer and Android device.

Step 4. SyncMate allows syncing contacts and calendars for free not only with your Android device, but with other mobile phones (Windows Mobile and Nokia S40), other Mac and Windows computers, iOS devices, Google and Dropbox accounts and so on. So just create a new connection in SyncMate and you are ready to sync.

“Flash Decompiler Saved My Time”

Peter Gould is a web designer/materials designer in A-Team Alcohol services, formed by two charities Nacro and Rapt. He has been in the field of web design and graphics for 10 years now and he says that every day in his work there is a new challenge.

Alex Taylor: What challenges made you search for the software of this kind?

Peter Gould: The original source flash file which I created for an alcohol unit calculator had been corrupted and I needed to update the application. I did not want to create the app again as it took a while to produce and wanted a quick fix method which would save me time.

Alex Taylor: How did you get to know about Flash Decompiler by Eltima?

Peter Gould: After a trawl of the internet and flash support forums I eventually came across your software.

Alex Taylor: Did you try other products for the same task before choosing Eltima solution? Why did you prefer our product?

Peter Gould: I tried other products which were an add onto flash professional but these were ineffective and resulted in one case of reinstalling the flash software as the program became unusable.

Alex Taylor: Please, describe how you are using our product now.

Peter Gould: With only the swf file of my app I have used the flash decompiler to extract the actionscript behind the application. With the decompiler I was able to edit all values in the script and remove security vulnerabilities associated with flash player. It was very straight forward to do this with the software and I was able to make a demo of the app again in under an hour with the decompiler.

Alex Taylor: How did you benefit from using Eltima solution?

Peter Gould: Flash Decompiler saved my time: It saved me recreating the app again which would have taken weeks to produce again.

iCloud support is on the way!

iCloud fans, rejoice! SyncMate will support direct sync of your iCal and Address Book with iCloud calendars and contacts soon.

And not only iCloud! Our developers are currently working on adding the support for any online service using CardDAV and CalDAV protocols.

Once the possibility to sync with these services is added, CardDAV and CalDAV will appear in SyncMate wizard as separate connections. Users will be able to pick any service that supports these protocols from the list or add their own and sync iCal and Address Book entries with it.

Among the most popular services using CardDav or CalDAV protocols are iCloud, Yahoo, and others.

SyncMate Tips. Issue #3. Syncing with online storages

Connect online storage as a mounted device

Yes, it is possible. If the online storage uses WebDAV protocol, your account in this storage can be mounted to your Mac as a disk and you can browse its content on Mac, not even logging in to it in web browser.

All you need to do is enter the link to your account in Finder and it will appear as the additional Mac disk that can be synced with SyncMate (choose Mounted storage device connection in SyncMate wizard).

Sync online storages with supported devices

With SyncMate you can sync data in any supported device with online storage you are currently using (even if it is not yet supported by SyncMate).

Note: this trick is possible only if online storage creates a folder on your Mac, like Dropbox for example. You will only need to pick this folder in Folders plugin and sync it with any folder on supported device.

Of course, this option is valid for Folders sync only and for the devices that support folders sync option.
