SyncMate: Tom’s Budget Software Pick

Posted by Alex Taylor on December 7th, 2009

about

All of you are probably aware of such a great website as About.com. 750 experts at About.com are always ready to share their knowledge with you and offer the best solution of any problem.

One of those 750 experts is Tom Nelson, who runs Tom’s Macs Blog at About.com: Macs. Seems like the problem of Mac synchronization with multiple devices becomes more and more actual each day, so Tom turned his eyes on SyncMate.

Below are some quotes from his article about SyncMate. BTW, SyncMate became Tom’s Budget Software Pick.

“It’s the rare individual who has only one Mac; even rarer the person who only uses Apple products. If your life spans multiple devices – a Mac, a Windows PC, a Nokia or Windows Mobile smartphone, or one or more of Google’s online services – you may need a way to keep all those devices and services in sync.

If you need to ensure your data on multiple devices is up to date and in sync, consider SyncMate.

SyncMate 2.4 from Eltima can keep your contacts and calendars in sync across multiple devices. Need more than just contacts and calendars? SyncMate Expert adds the ability to sync iTunes music and video, iPhoto, Mail notes, Entourage notes, Safari bookmarks, and more.

If you need to ensure your data on multiple devices is up to date and in sync, consider SyncMate. The free standard version is an excellent way to try out the capabilities of SyncMate and see if they fit your needs.”

Thanks Tom! :)

Four Mice from Macworld – Great Job SyncMate!

Posted by Alex Taylor on November 19th, 2009

1_mworld

These four little mice look perfect, aren’t they? :)

As you’ve already guessed, SyncMate was reviewed by Macworld and got 4 mice rating. John Rizzo has kindly agreed to test SyncMate and below you may find some quotes from his review.

After the installation, he tried Contact and Calendar sync. “A nice touch is the ability to delete all contacts, events, or to-dos that reside the device or another computer that your Mac is connected. This is an easy way to clear out old data before syncing for the first time”, says John.

After the testing Free basic features, John tested Expert Edition features.”I looked at the $40 SyncMate Expert 2.4, which is chock full of data types and handy features, many of them unique.

For example, SyncMate Expert is the only utility that will sync Windows Mobile e-mail with the Mac Mail application (Entourage e-mail isn’t supported). It’s a one-way sync, where you select mailboxes to sync over to the phone. The mailboxes appear in a Mac OS X Mail folder in the phone’s Mail application, where you can read, reply to, and forward them. To prevent floods of e-mail from filling your Windows Mobile’s memory, you can limit the sync to one or more weeks of e-mail.

While the free version of SyncMate lets you view SMS message on your Mac, the Expert edition lets you send messages from your Mac, where you have a full-sized keyboard. Just type the message in SyncMate and sync with the device. Another useful feature is the ability to copy the call log to the Mac. SyncMate Expert provides a search field for calls history, as well as the ability to view incoming, outgoing, or missed calls.”

“If that isn’t enough,” John said, “SyncMate Expert also syncs music, photos, and movies with iTunes and iPhoto or to a folder. There’s also syncing of Safari and Firefox bookmarks, Mail notes, and even stickies. You can also install Windows Mobile applications from the Mac. Just drag a CAB file to the Application List, which displays the applications installed on the Windows Mobile device. Perform a sync to install the software.”

So, what does Macworld advise to its readers?

I can say for sure, we’ll do our best in order to add one more mouse into this rating and to be named #1 Sync Software for Mac OS X. All of you, dear readers, can help us improving SyncMate – just leave your comments, ideas, suggestions or complaints (if any :). Thanks!
